Location
Fulton County is in east-central New York and is known as the “Gateway to the Adirondacks.”
Beginnings
The county began to prosper more than 250 years ago when Sir William Johnson, a representative of the English king, created Tryon County. That county later divided into Fulton and Montgomery counties. Fulton County’s namesake is Robert Fulton, who invented the steamship.
